About the Project
Project Overview
The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT), in partnership with Kiewit Infrastructure West Co., is constructing a rock revetment along Kamehameha Highway in Ka‘a‘awa. This area has been identified as highly vulnerable to shoreline erosion, and the revetment construction will help ensure reliable highway access to the Ka’a’awa and North Shore communities by protecting Kamehameha Highway from ongoing shoreline erosion.
The project, initiated by HDOT, involves constructing a 450-foot rock revetment on the makai (ocean-facing) side of the highway to address the erosion. Years of planning, permitting, and design have paved the way for the construction phase, which aims to improve the long-term stability of the roadway while preserving access to essential coastal communities.
Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. will execute the construction phase of this project.
